The current problem of forming the educational environment of a theological seminary, which goes beyond the historically established framework of the dogmatic environment and ensures the development of activity and initiative in the personal qualities of seminary students, remains poorly studied today and requires careful immersion. The article comprehends the insufficient potential of the dogmatic educational environment, which is confirmed by a retrospective analysis of educational environments in Russia over several centuries, as well as an appeal to modern pedagogical research on the role of the educational environment in the formation of a graduate capable of independence, activity in educational and professional activities. The author turns to the diagnosis of the vector orientation of the educational environment of the Penza Orthodox Theological Seminary using the method of V. A. Yasvin, reveals its dogmatic nature and develops a model for the formation of the educational environment of the theological seminary at each level of education, allowing the student to increase the level of independent actions and initiatives in the process of individual mentoring. The mechanism for changing the educational environment of a theological seminary is a change in the functions and activities of mentors at each level of education. It is concluded that the quality of a graduate’s personality is ensured by a consistent step-by-step change in the vector orientation of the educational environment of the seminary.
