The article is devoted to the problem of language interaction transformations in the conditions of globalisation and information society development, and specifically to the impact of English language on Spanish language by means of Internet communication. At a time when digital technology erases both spatial and temporal boundaries, the dominance of English as a language of science, technology and culture leads to an extensive incorporation of English-language lexis into other languages. This makes it relevant to determine the role of anglicisms in modern Spanish language, which is being enriched with new loan words, but also aims at preserving its uniqueness and originality. Therefore, the study is aimed at identifying the characteristics of the assimilation of anglicisms in the speech of native Spanish speakers. The author explores the mechanisms of English loan words passing into Spanish, by looking at examples from social platforms, characterised by the key role played by English-speaking users. The author summarises that the assimilation of anglicisms in modern Spanish language is determined by the increasing need to name and conceptualise the changing reality, with the main factor in this process being the tendency towards linguistic economy and unification.
Keywords:Internet communication, language interaction, loan words, lexical assimilation, anglicisms, Spanish language.
