Within the framework of this article, the specifics of the development of students' foreign language communicative competence through the study of visual and expressive means and stylistic techniques of a foreign language are considered. The concept and role of foreign language communicative competence and its relation to the studied language material are also considered. The special role of the development of the considered competence in non-linguistic faculties is noted, the key difficulties of developing the foreign language communicative competence of students of non-linguistic faculties and ways to overcome them are noted. Attention is drawn to the concept, specifics and various classifications of visual and expressive means and stylistic techniques of a foreign language. The authors analyze the options of using visual and expressive means and stylistic techniques of a foreign language for the development of foreign language communicative competence of students of a non-linguistic university, their verbal, translation and other subspecies of foreign language communicative competence. The analysis of the concept of foreign language communicative competence, the features of this phenomenon, its role in foreign language education in higher education is carried out.
