The study aims to analyze gastronomic vocabulary in the lyrics of French songs from the perspective of their pragmatic potential. The sophistication of French cuisine is the most widespread stereotype about French culture worldwide. An integral component of this phenomenon is the unique, aesthetic attitude the French have toward food. These attitudes are reflected in the lyrics of French songs. Gluttonyms (food-related terms) found in songs can serve various functions: from conveying cultural codes inherent to the French mentality in the culinary domain to expressing personal meanings.
Keywords:French song, cultural code, gastronomic vocabulary, metaphorical function, nominative function.
