This article is devoted to the analysis of scientific research of scientists of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute named after M.I. Kalinin during the years of the Leningrad blockade. The main directions of scientific activity at the institute are defined. The works of the scientists of the institute are presented. Considerable attention is paid to theoretical developments that have found application in medicine, construction and installation works after shelling and air raids, as well as in improving technological processes at enterprises. The contribution of scientific developments of polytechnics to the defense of the city and the preservation of the scientific potential of the country is shown.
