The article is devoted to the historical analysis of methodological approaches to foreign language teaching in non-linguistic universities. The study identifies patterns in the transformation of language education goals and methods, highlighting the shift from the formal-grammatical acquisition of the language system to functional-pragmatic strategies and, subsequently, to professionally oriented instructional models. The proposed periodization includes three stages: formal-technological, functional-pragmatic, and socio-constructivist, each characterized by specific methodological orientations and pedagogical principles. The study explores the continuity between traditional and innovative approaches, emphasizing the necessity of adapting teaching methodologies to evolving professional requirements.
