The article considers the essence of the concept of adaptation, considers various types and methods of adaptation of employees in public institutions in the process of organizing a mentoring system. The author's definitions of the concepts of “mentoring”, “adaptation” and “ensuring adaptation” are proposed. The peculiarities of mentoring in providing adaptation of employees of public institutions are considered, as well as such mentoring tools as individual adaptation plan, coaching and feedback. The peculiarities of application of mentoring tools are considered that form the basis of the mentoring system in public institutions are developed. The works of domestic authors devoted to the process of training specialists of institutions for the implementation of mentoring activities are considered. The format of interaction between public institutions and educational institutions based on the use of the mentoring system as a basis for additional training of graduates in the required competencies is proposed.
