This article examines phenomena of phonostylistic nature in the poetic text «The Sream (from the Orient)» by Konstantin Balmont. The poem dated 1895 belongs to a transitional stage in the Russian literary process – from classicism to modernism, the «Age of Timelessness» whose specific features include the absence of a concrete artistic method, an open search for stylistic forms, an unsystematic character. However, the author goes beyond transitivity and creates in line with symbolism. The poetic work under consideration (as well as all of Balmont's early lyrics in general) is marked by phonetic harmony, and sound repetitions, paronymic wordplay, sound writing, etc. have a significant influence on the rhythmic and imagistic structure of the poem.
Keywords:phonostylistics, wordplay, sound recording, melody, Russian poetry, «age of timelessness».
