The article is devoted to the analysis of the activities of the Soviet state security agencies in relation to the Astrakhan Cossacks and former officers of the White Army in the late 1920s – early 1930s. The authors examine the forms and methods of work of the divisions of the Plenipotentiary Representative Office of the OGPU, aimed at suppressing the anti-state activities of those social and socio-professional groups that the authorities considered a potential threat to their security. The relevance of the topic is determined by the importance of studying global social and political processes at the regional level, which allows us to identify not only local specifics, but also general trends in the development of the domestic political situation in the country. The article uses materials from the Archive of the Information Center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Astrakhan Region (AIC UMVD AO), which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
