Sports-oriented education in Russian education is developing not only in a professional direction, but is also being proactively integrated into non-core universities in order to improve students' individual and public health indicators, increase their motivation to engage in sports, and form the habit of leading an active lifestyle on an ongoing basis. These trends are related to the fact that physical education classes provided in higher schools do not fully satisfy the state guidelines for improving the physical development of students. The SMART model, which is entirely focused on the competent setting of clear goals that play a key role in motivation and achieving high results, will help students to motivate themselves to play sports more intensively than was previously accepted in non-core universities. This approach is based on four principles: specificity, measurability, achievability, relevance, and time frame. The above–mentioned discipline in higher education institutions is mainly a collective activity, which, in the context of the SMART model, involves social recognition and interaction with like-minded people, which is a powerful support in achieving goals and maintaining motivation to make physical education and sports an integral part of the life of every Russian citizen.
