THE CIVILIZATIONAL APPROACH IN THE WORKS OF THE RUSSIAN RESEARCHER V.V. SOGRIN

This article analyzes Russian historian V.V. Sogrin's perspective on the civilizational approach to studying both Russia and the United States. He identifies unique and common aspects and factors of civilizations, and develops objective research methods for historical science. The article also notes that, by applying a wide and diverse range of interdisciplinary historical methods in his research, V.V. Sogrin developed a compelling inventory of civilizational archetypes, revealing and explaining their role at all stages of history. It is concluded that the use of global historical categories allowed V.V. Sogrin to substantiate an original scientific concept of the transformation of historical types of civilizations.
