This article provides a comparative analysis of two fundamental strategies for teaching Russian as a foreign language to Chinese students: the "localization" approach, common in China, and the "language immersion" approach, practiced in Russia. The study examines the strengths and weaknesses of each strategy, determined by the respective educational environments. The "localization" strategy, relying on the grammar-translation method and the native language as a mediator, is effective for building a solid grammatical foundation but carries the risk of developing a formal, "classroom" language that is disconnected from real-life communication. Conversely, the "immersion" strategy, based on the communicative method, facilitates the rapid development of speaking skills and sociocultural competence but may result in an unsystematic understanding of grammar. The author concludes that the optimal solution lies in a hybrid model that synthesizes the systematic nature of the Chinese approach with the practical orientation of the Russian one.
