The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations and practical aspects of developing intercultural communication in modern language education. Based on the concepts of Z.N. Volkova, Z. Kemelbekova and D. Sheven’, R.A. ugli Mukhiddinov, and A.S. Dunaeva, the study substantiates the understanding of intercultural competence as an integrative component of learners’ professional and linguistic training. It is demonstrated that the development of intercultural communication requires a shift from the traditional grammar-translation model to a communicative-cultural paradigm of teaching, emphasizing the use of authentic materials, cultural comparison, and interdisciplinary methods. The practical section analyzes the experience of Russian and foreign universities (Toraighyrov University, Moscow Pedagogical State University, Primorsky State Agricultural Academy, and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University), which demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating the intercultural approach into the educational process. Special attention is given to the impact of academic mobility, whose indicators, according to the Monitoring of International Activity (2024) by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, show steady growth, enhancing the relevance of forming intercultural competence among students and teachers. The conclusion emphasizes that the development of intercultural communication is a strategic direction in the modernization of language education, ensuring professional readiness, social adaptation, and tolerance of learners in the context of the global educational environment.
