INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN SIBERIA: TANNERIES IN TYUMEN AS A CASE STUDY IN REGIONAL PRODUCTION

The article is devoted to the study of the formation and development of the leather industry at the end of the XVIII – first quarter of the XIX centuries, considered as an important branch of industrial entrepreneurship in Siberia. Special attention is paid to the role of merchant dynasties in the economic development of Tyumen. The article systematizes data on the scale of production, organizational forms, raw leather processing processes and management methods of merchant tanneries. It has been established that the leather industry of the late XVIII – first quarter of the XIX centuries. It was a key industry in Tyumen, where family forms of labor and production organization were introduced, which contributed to increasing the success of enterprises. The results obtained demonstrate the great contribution of merchant dynasties to the development of industrial production in Siberia, the improvement of techniques and methods of processing raw materials, the expansion of sales markets and the formation of a professional stratum of workers using the example of the city of Tyumen (Tobolsk province).
