The collapse of the USSR caused many socio-cultural changes. These changes also affected trade relations. In the 90s, trade between Russia and Turkmenistan began to be influenced by a number of socio-cultural features of Turkmen society, which include: the clan structure of society, authoritarianism of power, and the high importance of personal trust in relationships.
