The article widely analyzes published in 1925-2017. in the Baku press materials on the death of the great Russian poet Sergei Yesenin, the versions in them about the causes of the poet's death are examined against the backdrop of the socio-political panorama of the era. Various opinions and arguments are presented from different Russian and Azerbaijani authors: they are divided into two camps - some consider that it was suicide, and another camp seeks to prove that before the death Yesenin was overflowing with the living and creating. At the end of the article are the author's own judgments on this issue. It lies in the fact that despite the interesting enough and tempting judgments of the supporters of the version about the murder of the poet, a number of serious problems that Yesenin faced: family issues, alcohol addiction, stay in a psychiatric hospital shortly before death, etc., testify to a greater degree in favor of version of suicide.
