The article looks upon speech phenomena, which facilitate objectivity and subjectivity of presenting information in mass media texts. The author investigates the functions of metaphors, similes, idioms, authorization lexemes, rhetoric questions, stylistic contamination, citation and precedent phenomena. Interpreting these speech devices boosts students’ communicative competency. The semantic component of teaching English is a key to successful learning.
