The expressionist poetics as the basis of the Russian avant-garde urban poerty

The article deals with the phenomenon of West European expressionism which had a great impact on the urban poetics of the Russian futurism pioneers. The image of a modern city lies at the heart of early avant-garde poems. The author supposes that futurists’ adjustment for the emotional emphasis, their anti-aestheticism and bent to grotesque are inseparable of the artistic endeavor (painting included) of, above all, German expressionism.
