Islam in Soviet and post-Soviet Tajikistan

Islam as a religion and ideology acted as the main competitor and opponent of the Soviet Communist ideology in the first years of establishment of Soviet power in Tajikistan. Basmachi - as a Holy Jihad against the Soviet power in the Republic began in 1918 and lasted until 1934. In the course of this war in Tajikistan is gradually destroyed physically bright members of the clergy, among whom was educated jadids, mullahs, īśāna, feasts, etc. Instead, there had been a major atheistic anti-religious propaganda in all places and at all levels. In the post-Soviet period in Tajikistan, the intensification of the Islamic forces led by Tajik society to civil war. The civil war in Tajikistan, where the Islamic opposition has been actively involved, was the starting point for the destabilization of the political situation in all the republics of Central Asia. Political and military activity of the Islamists in Tajikistan in the event of success could provoke civil conflict throughout Central Asia.
