In this paper we attempt to compare the product of B.K. Zaitsev "St. Sergius of Radonezh", written in the genre of the story-life, with the ancient Russian hagiographic literature. The author proves that in the text created by the contemporary writer, traits characteristic of the Old Russian spiritual literature are traced: at the level of composition, plot, selection of linguistic means, biography of the Orthodox saint.
