Azerbaijan is rightly recognized as not only one of the oldest centers of human civilization, a crossroads of roads and cultures, but also a strategically important region. These circumstances determine the relevance of the article, the subject of which are the medieval cities of Azerbaijan and the state of their fortifications in the 11th - early 13th centuries. In the article the peculiarities of the fortification of some cities of medieval Azerbaijan.
