Competence approach to learning foreign languages in digital education

The article deals with the role and place of the competence approach in the process of teaching foreign languages to students of higher education. The concept of "competence approach", "competence", "competency", "communicative competence" are analyzed. The article describes the components of foreign language communicative competence: functional, linguistic, speech and socio-cultural, as well as the most relevant aspects of the implementation of the competence approach in the formation of foreign language communicative competence with the use of digital technology and digital resources.
