The French language textbook for first-year students of institutes and faculties of foreign languages by I.N. Popova, Zh. A. Kazakova and others is, by all accounts, the most stable and effective educational publication for beginners for almost six decades. First published in 1961, the textbook has survived the 21st edition, and is still used both in studies at universities and in independent study of French. Compiled based on the scientific and methodological vision of language structures, presented in the works of V.G. Gaka, the textbook has a very successful structure, harmonious selection of various lexical and grammatical exercises, logical, simple and accessible, provides students with sufficient, complete information about the phonetic and grammatical side of the French language, contains extensive linguistic and regional material.
