This article analyzes the Soviet and modern literature about the Great Patriotic War in the context of their educational value. Soviet literature about the war was formed under the influence of two extra-literary factors: the author's status in the command and control hierarchy of wartime and the ideological censoring of texts. The emergence of a new military prose took place in the conditions of an undeclared war that formed a stable anti-militarist public consciousness. With all the variety of artistic approaches and style incarnations, modern literature about the Great Patriotic War is devoted to solving the main issue - about the price of Victory. New military prose merges with the literature of the "lost generation", assimilates the experience of existentialist prose, the techniques of modernist writing, and enters the field of genre experiments.
