The relevance of this article is due to the processes of informatization of society and education. The purpose of the article is to find effective methods and technologies for organizing social and cultural activities aimed at developing the social and personal competence of a future specialist. The types of activities that are necessary in the formation of social and personal competence in the conditions of the information society are determined. Research in the field of linguistics is being updated, revealing the problems of the interaction of language and culture. The necessity of searching for effective methods and technologies aimed at the development of information and media culture of the individual is indicated.
