The article is devoted to the analysis of language devices in the English and Russian languages that are used to describe court scenes in the fairy tales “Alice's adventures in Wonderlad” by L. Carroll and “Istoria odnogo goroda” by M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin. Comic effects are created by the authors using comic situations, dialogues between participants with comic characteristics and language devices. The analysis of language devices suggests that the “comic” effect is represented in a satirical manner in the works of fiction. The individual features of the authors’ satire made it possible to present a special criticism and denial of the social reality in the 19 century in England and Russia.
