INDIRECT ACTIONS OF THE USA AND THE USSR IN THE COUNTRIES OF LATIN AMERICA DURING THE COLD WAR (1945-1991)

This article examines the implementation of the main strategic objectives of the USA and the USSR in relation to the Latin American region in the context of the global confrontation between superpowers. The author identifies the main methods and tools for implementing the foreign policy goals of the USA and the USSR in the region. The article identifies and systematizes the mechanisms of “indirect” influence and control by the United States over the foreign and domestic policies of Latin American countries, as well as methods for adjusting them in favor of Washington, and examines the cooperation of the countries of the region with the USSR. The key role of the military and security forces of the United States and Latin American countries in the implementation of Washington's policy in the region is noted. The author has formulated conclusions regarding the nature, breadth and effectiveness of the use of “indirect actions” in relation to the countries of the Latin American region in the context of the global confrontation between superpowers.
