This article presents the results of the theoretical and methodological analysis conducted by the author on the problem of formation of motivation of students' educational activities based on the study of domestic and foreign pedagogical practice. The author describes the main characteristics of motivation, shows the relevance of the formation of positive motivation in students, in particular in music education. The text of the article also emphasizes the need to use additional forms of interaction as strategies for developing student motivation. Possible conditions are proposed for the formation of motivation for students' educational activities in such additional forms of work as an "educational project". As an example, the author summarizes his personal experience of preparing and implementing an educational project with students of the conservatory in the form of musical and educational programs. In such co-creative practices, students' creative initiatives are supported. The joint organization and implementation of educational projects is aimed at developing students' self-determination, mastering their profession, and as a result, the motivation of educational activities develops.
