COLOR FACTOR AS AN EXPLICATOR OF NATIONAL-HISTORICAL COLOR IN SALMAN RUSHDIE’S NOVEL “MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN”

examines the features of the use of the lexemes green, saffron and black as means of realizing national and cultural flavor in the text of S. Rushdie’s novel “Midnight’s Children”. The ambivalence of the adjective green is noted, which acquires a positive connotation in combination with the adjective saffron and functions in combination with the adjective black as a marker of negative connotation characteristic of certain episodes of the text of the novel. The importance of color symbolism for conveying the author’s personal point of view on fateful events in the history of India and in the life of the main characters of the novel is stated.
