MUSEUMS AND THE CHURCH IN RUSSIA: PRIORITIES OF INTERACTION IN THE 1990-2000

After 1991, revived temples and churches became not the only source of preserved knowledge about the centuries-old history of the development of religions. In parallel, public and private museums began to conduct ideological and educational activities, whose profile was based on the research, collecting and display of Christian relics. The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) traditionally enriches private and state museums with means of worldview related to moral, psychological and symbolic-aesthetic issues. Important in the activities of such cultural organizations are the principles that allow them to position the value and exclusivity of religion both from the point of view of the history of its development, and as a means of cultivating ethical norms and rules of life among the population. Also of particular interest are the rules for organizing the activities of existing museums. The methodological basis of the study is the principles of historicism, scientific objectivity, systematicity and complexity, which allow us to study the historical experience of the formation of private museums in Russia, trends and prospects for the development of this area. The novelty of the study lies in rethinking the foundations and prospects of interaction between the Russian Orthodox Church and museums in Russia in the 1990-2000s.
