CHURCH REFORM OF THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE 18 CENTURY ON THE TERRITORY OF THE VLADIMIR REGION

The article examines the concrete implementation of the church reform in the territory of the Vladimir Region on the basis of documents from the monastery archives. The author shows an incomplete attempt to secularize church estates, changes in the life of the clergy, and a clash of interests between Church and state. The events of local history fully reflect the desire of the supreme authorities to limit the independence of the Russian Orthodox Church at any cost, to fit it into the context of the «common good», and to create a state church.
