FUNCTIONING OF SPATIAL METAPHORS IN MODERN RUSSIAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

This work is devoted to the study of the functioning of parametric adjectives of space in a metaphorical meaning in modern Russian political discourse. In recent years, there has been an increase in scientific interest in exploring ways to express abstract concepts using spatial metaphor. In the framework of this study, parametric adjectives of space used in the texts of political discourse are understood as linguistic units that act as the main means of nominating spatial relations and rethinking spatial concepts and abstract meanings into concrete ones. The purpose of the work is to identify the peculiarities of the functioning of spatial metaphors in the process of transmitting abstract concepts and concepts in modern Russian political discourse. The language material for the study was texts from the newspapers “Pravda”, “Novaya Gazeta” and “Kommersant” in 2019-2023. In this work, methods such as descriptive, contextual analysis, and continuous text sampling were used. The results of the study allow us to conclude that through spatial metaphor, parametric adjectives in modern Russian political discourse make abstract concepts more concrete and easier to understand.
