The paper focuses on the study of the military automotive terminology in English and Russian languages. The purpose of this study is to determine stages of formation and specific features of the “Military Transportation” terminology system as an independent area of special vocabulary in English and Russian languages. The scientific novelty of the work lies in considering military automotive engineering terminology a separate terminological system which is formed in connection with the development of automotive and military equipment. After international and national data analysis the author describes the chronological stages in the development of military automotive terminology, identifies extralinguistic factors which influenced the process of the development of the terminological system and determines the most productive ways of term formation. The paper also reveals the results of comparative analysis of the most productive ways of term formation at different stages of the terminological system development. The results of the survey demonstrate that English and Russian "Military Transportation" terminological systems developed concurrently and now are characterised as open and constantly developing systems, which are being changed due to both linguistic factors and extra-linguistic factors related to the advances in military technologies.
