This article reveals the actual problem - the essence and peculiarities of the functioning of teaching skill competitions in Russian and Chinese educational institutions, existing in modern days. Teaching Ability Competition” and ‘Teacher of the Year of Russia’ were taken as a basis for comparative analysis, which in different ways relate to the disclosure of teachers' pedagogical potential. The author of this article also substantiated their value in the education of the young generation. Much attention was also paid to the main criteria on the basis of which the activities of pedagogical staff of both countries are evaluated annually.
