ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH NAMES OF DISHES AS A MEANS OF CONFLICT-FREE COMMUNICATION IN THE TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PEOPLE

The given article is dedicated to the study of the peculiarities of semantics and the use of phraseological units (hereinafter – PU) of the English language with components-names of dishes in the context of conflict-free communication. In particular, the conflictogenic potential of the PU in the transmission of information about people is considered. The study is carried out by analyzing the figurative foundations that define the semantics of PU, as well as the contexts of the PU use. It is concluded that the used images associated with dishes are generally neutral and the studied PU have a low potential for generating conflicts, however, in the process of information exchange it is important to take into account non-linguistic factors of communication organization.
