STRUCTURAL PECULIARITIES OF INITIAL ABBREVIATIONS IN THE ENGLISH MILITARY LEXIS

The article summarizes different approaches to typological classification of English abbreviations in Russian and foreign linguistics. In the practical part of the work the authors describe structural peculiarities of initial abbreviations. This type of abbreviation constructions outnumbers other types in the context of English military lexis. Along the basic initial abbreviations, other structural schemes combining initial formation type with elimination of notional and function words and with saving of construction elements of the original word combination are analyzed.
