The article is devoted to the topical topic of the development of methods of pedagogical observation in modern pedagogy.
The research goal is to identify the pedagogical observation types that are most often used in domestic and foreign empirical pedagogical research. based on the analysis of scientific literature, as well as systematized the directions of further promising research.
The research methodology includes general scientific methods: synthesis, analysis, comparison, formal logical method. In the course of work on the topic, the following special methods were also used: historiographical analysis of the scientific discourse of the topic under study; qualitative analysis of the possibilities of using statistical analysis methods to verify pedagogical research data.
As a result of the study, the following conclusions were formulated: in Russian pedagogy, the method of non-involved observation of the educational process is mainly used when conducting empirical research both at school and at university. In foreign pedagogy, the method of participant pedagogical observation is more widespread, which is used in work with schoolchildren more often than with students.
