REFLECTION OF CHINESE CULTURE IN MODERN FOREIGN LITERATURE (BASED ON REBECCA KUANG’S WORK “THE POPPY WAR”)

The aim of this study is to analyze how elements of Chinese culture are reflected in Rebecca Kuang’s novel “The Poppy War” and to determine their influence on the formation of characters, the plot lines and the general atmosphere of the work. In the process of studying the selected material the following tasks were set as: 1) to distinguish the peculiarities of Chinese culture; 2) to analyze the cultural and historical contexts persuading the novel’s creation; 3) to test how the application of Chinese cultural patterns is of importance to the tone and sensing of the novel by now-a-days foreign readers. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that recently there has been a growing interest in Chinese culture in many countries of the world. The scientific novelty is based on the complex study consisting of the analysis of cultural influence in the literary context, allowing us to have a new and additional knowledge about the technics of cultural interexchange, the purpose of literature in the creation of public consciousness, similarly the explicity of the reflection of Chinese culture in modern foreign literature. In order to achieve the aim, the following research methods were applied: the consideration of historical and cultural context; the analysis of political, social and cultural factors; the interpretation.
