The article examines the challenges of engaging and motivating students in humanities disciplines to participate in research activities at higher education institutions in the Russian Federation. Based on a survey of 114 students from one of the leading universities in the Far East of Russian Federation, key factors that reduce motivation to engage in research were identified, including lack of time, unclear understanding of the practical benefits of research, insufficient motivation from instructors, and a shortage of financial support. The authors propose a set of measures to increase students' interest in research, such as demonstrating the practical significance of studies, stimulating student engagement through participation in grants and competitions, mentorship from instructors, and the introduction of flexible research formats. The study's findings may be useful for developing strategies to integrate science into education in the humanities.
