ASSERTIONS OF THE LEGITIMACY OF WILLIAM'S CONQUEST OF ENGLAND IN NORMAN SOURCES

This article analyzes the Norman sources describing the Norman conquest of England and identifies the main directions of the Norman legitimizing discourse. Legitimacy in the medieval context was a complex fusion of dynastic rights, church sanctions, recognition of nobility, military force, and the successful construction of the legal and ideological basis of power. The relevance of the research is due to the constant interest of scientists in the search for explanations of the events of the past. As a result of the study, it was revealed that in recent years there have been several trends in the study of the Norman conquest of England. One of these directions is the inclusion of the history of the Norman conquest in the general context of the history of England. Conquest is seen as part of the evolutionary development of the state through succession and legitimation.
