The article deals with the peculiarities of the functioning of English loanwords in the Russian-language sports discourse. On the example of figure skating the authors study English borrowings representing various aspects of this sport. The thematic classification of these lexical units is presented in the paper, as well as the peculiarities of the assimilation process in the recipient language. The authors make a conclusion about the variants of using English borrowings in the Russian-language sports discourse and their derivation potential.
