This article explores the application of semantic role theory to the analysis of judicial discourse. It investigates how participants in the judicial process (judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, defendant, jurors) assume various semantic roles (agent, patient, object, instrument, and others) during a trial. Key semantic roles characteristic of judicial discourse are identified, and their connections to the institutional functions of the process participants are established.
