AT THE ORIGINS OF STUDENT SCIENCE: CIRCLE OF ELECTRICIANS OF THE ELECTROMECHANICAL FACULTY OF THE ST. PETERSBURG (LENINGRAD) POLYTECHNIC (INDUSTRIAL) INSTITUTE (1909-1936)

The article is devoted to the history of the scientific student association, the Circle of Electricians, established in 1909 on the basis of the Faculty of Electromechanics of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. The emergence of the Polytechnic Institute in St. Petersburg was dictated by the need for industrial modernization of the country by new graduates. Scientists, professors, as well as technologists and engineers who have proven themselves to be good specialists in production were invited to teach at the institute. The training program included lectures, laboratory classes, and industrial practice. At their leisure, students could participate in sports and creative clubs, of which several dozen were registered at the institute. But scientific student associations played a special role. One of these was the Electricians' Circle at the Electromechanical department. In the following years, many participants made a significant contribution to the development of electrical engineering and attached great importance to their involvement in the circle.
