This article examines the pre-revolutionary period (1811-1917) of the Internal (Convoy) Guard at the stage of its origin, development, and transformation into the Separate Corps of the Internal Guard, as well as issues related to the recruitment and training of soldiers and officers for specific service activities such as guarding and escorting prisoners, accompanying recruitment teams to their service locations, and assisting the police and gendarmerie in maintaining public order. At the same time, while remaining an integral part of the military department, the internal (convoy) guard absorbed all the transformations that took place in the army, remained part of the law enforcement system of the Russian Empire, but at the same time faced problems in recruiting high-quality officers and soldiers.
