NEOLOGISMS OF MODERN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MEDIA DISCOURSE

Gaidarenko Vadim Anatolyevich  (Candidate of Philological Sciences, Docent Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation", Moscow, Russia )

The article is devoted to the study of the semantic and cognitive features of neologisms that are actively functioning in modern English-language media discourse. The problem associated with the constant updating of the lexical system of the English language and the adaptation of new words to the conditions of mass communication is becoming increasingly important in the context of global socio-cultural changes and the development of digital technologies. Constantly emerging lexical innovations become not only indicators of linguistic changes, but also tools for shaping public opinion, value orientations, and new behaviors. Therefore, it is increasingly important to investigate not only the formal and structural characteristics of neologisms, but also their cognitive basis: how new words are fixed in the linguistic consciousness of native speakers, what conceptual structures (concepts, frames) underlie their perception and to what extent these units influence the speech behavior and social identification of communication participants. This, in turn, involves a comprehensive analysis combining linguistic, cognitive, sociocultural and pragmatic approaches. In the article, we tried to theoretically substantiate and empirically confirm the specifics of the semantic and cognitive characteristics of neologisms in modern English-language media discourse, as well as to determine their functional and pragmatic role in mass communication.

Keywords:neologisms. media discourse, pragmatic approach, public opinion, communication, concepts, frames.
