The article narrates the development of the Soviet tank industry in the 1930s and examines the underlying causes of the production crisis that led to a systemic reorganization of the industry and repeated leadership changes between 1936 and 1938. It highlights the key factors that negatively impacted tank production performance, including a shortage of skilled workers and technicians, difficulties in mastering tank armor and engines, and a reliance on rigid approaches to combat vehicle design. It concludes that the increased complexity of domestic tank designs during the Third Five-Year Plan, aimed at improving their technical reliability and combat capabilities, met with significant limitations of industry capabilities.
