The article is devoted to the etymological analysis of the equivalentless Adyghe lexeme "mamiku". The diachronic analysis shows that during the evolutionary development of the language, there was a semantic shift in the meaning of the word "mamiku", which obscures the inner form of the word, making it difficult to determine its structure and semantics. A painstaking study was conducted to investigate the origin, sources, and initial form of the lexical unit, as well as to analyze the meaning, ancient, and modern forms of the lexeme "mamiku," which represents the objective reality of the Adyghe linguistic culture. This required a comparative analysis of historical, ethnographic, and linguistic information about the word form.
Keywords:mamiku, midwife, obstetrician, Adyghe language, Kabardian-Cherkessian language, non-equivalent vocabulary, etymology
