Sufism, or tasawwuf, is an ascetic and mystical trend in Islam. It includes teaching and spiritual practices that help overcome mental vices and achieve spiritual growth. Sufism is also called Muslim asceticism because its followers lead a special way of life. This is one of the main trends of classical Muslim philosophy, and its adherents are called Sufis. Sufism is the path to absolute reality. His driving force is love, and the means to achieve his goal is concentration and inner balance in all circumstances. The ultimate goal of this path is God. In other words, at the end of the Sufi's spiritual path, only God remains. The main method of achieving this goal is tariqa, which means "road" or "path". Sufi tariqas adapted Islamic teachings to local religious customs and cultural values, which sometimes led to the emergence of new rituals unknown in the early Islamic tradition. Thus, Sufism is more focused on the internal aspect of religion and its interaction with local cultural characteristics. The African experience of Sufism vividly illustrates this idea.
