This article examines aspects of the interaction between the functional-semantic categories of emotiveness, causativity, and intensity, using emotive causatives as an example. The category of intensity can be actualized by multi-level means of the linguistic system; the core of this functional-semantic category consists of lexical, word-formative, and morphological means. The category of intensity can be actualized both explicitly and implicitly. The latter include words that have the semantic potential of intensity seme and intensifiers. The mechanisms of intensification include interaction with the category of emotiveness, resulting in the merging of the meanings of emotiveness and intensity.
Keywords:emotive causatives, emotiveness, causativity, intensity, intensificant, functional potential, semantic syncretism.
