This article is devoted to a key aspect of a professional performance of diplomatic community: the quality of language proficiency. It lists the main methods of assessing language proficiency that contribute to achieving diplomatic personnel's language proficiency goals, such as LSP tests, situational exercises, language portfolios, and expert assessments. The author describes and analyzes these methods using a comparative analysis, emphasizing the practical application of acquired knowledge by simulating situations from real-life professional activities.
